Chapter 2
Writer: Nishioka Maiko
Season: Winter
Location: Starmony Halls 1F Corridor

Wataru: Hm~mm...
(While I do want to deliver some sort of surprise to the residents of Starmony Halls...)
(I wonder what exactly would make everyone happy... What would work to fill these dorms with love? If that turns out to be fun, then I believe I will naturally find myself fulfilled.)
Hmm. Well, I might as well attempt to conceive some ideas in the book room, where knowledge is aplenty.

[ Scene change: Book Room ]

Wataru: Oh? It seems some new books have come in.
Aoba Tsumugi-kun is thorough in managing the inventory, so I suppose he regularly brings in new books and replaces the old ones.
Now then... Let's start with that book over there that caught my eye.

Hajime: Errm...? Tie it like this... And then pass it through this loop...

Wataru: ... Mm? There's someone hiding in that corner quietly up to something... Is that—
I was right, it is you, Shino-kun.

Hajime: Woah?! Ah wha-wha-wha?!

Wataru: (He just hid something behind his back... I wonder why he's so flustered?)
(Oh? Something's rolled over to my feet.)

Hajime: Ah?!

Wataru: This is... a ribbon used to decorate presents, yes? Is this what you were trying to hide, Shino-kun?

Hajime: Ahh, you saw it...

Wataru: The more you try to hide something, the more it will stand out.
In these situations, what you should do is draw attention to something else. That's how sleight of hand works, too. The challenge lies in how much you can draw attention away from the mechanism behind the trick.

Hajime: Uu... I'll take note of that.
But I also feel like I would just panic and fail even if I tried...

Wataru: Fufufu, it just takes some getting used to. Just like how your legs will tremble uncontrollably when you first stand up on stage, but it goes away with time.
Having said that, I also don't see why you would be so desperate to hide this ribbon.

Hajime: Um... I was actually trying to hide the presents that I'm wrapping, but you've seen everything now, so I'll just explain.
We had a chocolate exchange event in the dorms for Valentine's Day last month, right?

Wataru: Ah, I suppose we did. I believe I received some chocolate while passing by.

Hajime: For various reasons, we couldn't distribute chocolates to our fans at ChocolaFes this year, but...
Valentine's Day is a day for chocolate.
I got to try some really expensive chocolate that would normally be way out of my price range, and people were exchanging and enjoying sweets all throughout the dorms.
I received so much from so many people that day, so I wanted to give something in return for White Day.
And I thought I would make it a surprise while I was at it, so I hid here to do the wrapping, but... You ended up finding me.

Wataru: I see, so that's what this is about.

Hajime: Please keep this a secret from everyone else! I want it to be a surprise.

Wataru: Oh, but of course! I practically live for the sake of love and surprises, so I would never do anything as tasteless as getting in the way of others' love!

Hajime: I don't think it's that big of a deal, but thank you very much ♪

Wataru: Hm. But that certainly is a lot of wrapping paper you've got there.

Hajime: Yes, the hundred-yen stores have gift wrapping sections these days, and they have a really wide variety of products~
I was originally going to use the same thing for all the gifts, but when I saw the colourful and cute wrapping paper in front of me...
I thought of using paper that matches the person I would give each item to.
I ended up picking the paper out while I was still thinking about what to use for each person, and it was so fun that I ended up buying too much.
And look at this! There are all sorts of websites and videos that teach you how to tie decorative ribbons too~ ♪

Wataru: (Fufufu. I can feel Shino-kun's excitement as if it were my own. I understand perfectly — little can compare to the thrill of preparing for a festival .)
(Yes, that's right. This is what I was searching for. Surprises have to be fun for the surpriser, too!)
What luck! To think I would happen upon such an adorable little surprise while searching for the seeds* to the flower of love.

Hajime: Huh? Uhh, what do you mean by seeds? Are you going to perform some sleight of hand, Hibiki-senpai?

Wataru: Oh, a wonderful suggestion. Let's throw in some sleight of hand techniques too! Surely that will be even more fun.
I happen to be in search of surprises — that's why I came here.

Hajime: ... Huh?

[1]: 'Seeds' 種 is also used to refer to the 'secret' behind a sleight of hand trick.
